Kapal Kajian (KK) MANCHONG or Research Vessel MANCHONG



BACKGROUND

KK MANCHONG was built under the Sarawak Fisheries Infrastructure Development Program. The funding came from Federal government through the Asia Development Bank. This vessel build in Nagaishima, Kobe, Japan by Yamaha Motor Sdn. Bhd. The value of this vessel was RM 3,793 million and it took 31 weeks to accomplished.

KK MANCHONG is the biggest fiberglass research vessel in Malaysia. This vessel is fully equipped by modern gear technologies. Beside that, KK MANCHONG also capable to conduct a study based on pelagic and demersal fish.

KK MANCHONG in charge of :

1.1. used to conduct research or survey in Malaysia Water especially Sabah and Sarawak. This is for updating the resource information based on specific area/waters. This research able to provide enough information for fisheries industry.
1.2. This vessel used in gear technology demonstrations to private sector especially fishermen. These gear technology as well as trawl net, purse seine, longline, trap, Squid jigging, handline and gill netting.

Travel Distance : 10 days or 2,000 nautical miles

MAIN RESEARCH DONE BY K.K MANCHONG

National Project

1. Charter Boar Deep Sea Monitoring together with KK MANCHONG, August 2002 at Sarawak waters. This was collaboration between Jabatan Perikanan Laut Sarawak and Institut Penyelidikan Perikanan Cawangan Sarawak, Bintawa.

2. Study on Sea Sand Resources in Malacca Straits (Kajian Sumber Pasir Laut Negara - Selat Melaka), done by NAHRIM together with IPP, Pulau Pinang, September to October 2001.
Output: Paper was send to Kementerian Perusahaan Utama

3.Malacca Straits Expedition, done by UPM-JICA August 1999.

4. Study of Demersal Fish Resource from 15 September to 9 October 1997 in West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia 21 March to 2 June 1998 and 6 September to 1 November 1999, for the whole coast of Sarawak 7 July to 17 November 1998 and West Coast of Sabah 13 October to 6 November 1998.

1. Collaboration research with SEAFDEC Thailand: Research on Fisheries Resources in South China Sea AREA II covered West Coast of Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam, July to August 1996, the study covered for Fish Biology and Resources.
