Rationale

The Freshwater Fisheries Research Centre has been the pioneer in the scientific development of freshwater fish aquaculture not only to Malaysia but also to all the tropical countries in the Commonwealth region.

The Centre acts as a national resource of information and expertise for freshwater fisheries in Malaysia. The roles of FFRC include research on aquaculture, fisheries management of inland waters and aquarium fish/aquatic plant.

The centre has set up a systematic but orderly strategic research plan giving priorities to those fishes having economic potentials, competitive in nature and suitable to the social and culture status of the nation.
