Achievements

The 1--month old Golden Arowana (reared in tank), spawned at FFRC

Some of the research successes of the FFRC are :

  • The development, standardisation, and refinement of induced breeding techniques for freshwater food fishes and ornamentals of commercial value.

  • The mass production of fry, namely, Temoleh (Probarbus julleini), Baung (Mystus nemurus), Keli (Clarias gariepinus), Patin (Pangasius sutchi), Sebarau (Hampala macrolepidota), and Red Tilapia (Oreochromis spp.).

  • The production of sex-reversed fish using hormone treatment.

  • The production of all-red batches of Tilapia fry.

  • Development of culture systems and management for food fishes culture.

  • The mass production of live feed organisms ; Moina sp., Daphnia magna, blood-worm.

  • The development of formulated diets for broodstock, larval rearing and grow out.

  • The development of a new cage culture designs.

  • Inventorisation of common parasites and related diseases of cultured and ornamentals fishes.

  • The development of RADIKIT.

  • The development of Rain-fed Re-circulating Water System For Fish Culture.

  • The development of tissue culture techniques for aquatic plants.

  • The development of breeding technique of Malaysian Golden Arowana (Sclerophages formosus).
