New Technology 'Off-flavor' Treatment System for Freshwater Fish FFRC has been able to fabricate a system to eradicate the off-flavor smell in freshwater fish. The off-flavor problem caused by the presence of 2-Methylisoborneol (MIB) and Geosmin in fish cultured in earthen is normally rejected by most consumers. Two systems were fabricated in consideration of the availability of water supply. With the alternative systems fabricated, the off-flavor can be removed within 3 - 4 days. The SIRKIS which treats and recycle the water is most appropriate to areas where the water supply is scarce.
On the other hand SIRAT should be practiced where there is ample supply of water to be used in the flow through system.
