Fish harvesting technology using Fish Pump

The need to mechanise the activities in aquaculture industry of Malaysia has increased with the constrains faced in getting manpower and intensification of culture. The approach will also make Malaysia's aquaculture industry more competitive with the neighbouring countries.

In 1999 PPPAT has started a R&D colloboration with Golden Hope Plantations Berhad. To handle the manpower shortage problem it has been decided that some sort of mechanisation be introduced into the activities. To start FFRC embarked on fabrication of a fish pump Pamikan 1, to help in the harvest.

The pump is capable of handling 0.7 - 1.0 ton of fish per hour with little damage to the fish. Further tests will be carried on the pump to improve on it efficiency while work is also starting to incorporate a grader into the pump.
